Polar Heart Rate Monitor

Over the past two decades I have tried different heart rate monitor devices as part of my training. My preference is Polar Heart Monitor. During my climb in Africa last February I was sponsored by Polar USA and ended up wearing their new RS 800 series that did everything but clean my clothes while on my trip. The watch was an ideal training partner as I made the ascent up the 19,340' Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. The watch was very helpful in monitoring my work output (HR and caloric expenditure) and was extremely helpful when I wanted to see what the difference with/without using my trekking poles during the climb. The Polar RS 800 heart rate monitor demonstrated that I was conserving energy when using my trekking poles by reducing my heart rate level by as much as 20-40 bpm. If you do not need all the bells and whistles their basic version will due just fine. But overall I give it two thumbs up! This device is a great training tool that enables you to see just how hard your really working...or not working!
